Solo Journeys_
Last year, 2025, was when I was finally able to really get into TableTop RPGs. I was lucky enough to find an amazing group of people to play with on an almost weekly basis. We played Daggerheart, Cyberpunk Red, and Delta Green. The latter provided some of the most fun I've ever had, and I hope to play another campaign in the future.
Went through the BLACKSAT scenario in #DeltaGreen. Didn’t end very well 😅 but a really fun story!
Alas, life took me away from that group when I had to relocate to another continent. We still play remotely on Roll20 and Discord, but much less frequently.
That led me to explore the Solo TTRPG ecosystem and game design space. Honestly, I was not prepared for the sheer amount of games and creativity I discovered in this niche.
To get started, I had to find a way to keep track of my play sessions, which games I wanted to play, and which I just wanted to read through. Another challenge I found with solo play was creating that "game space" and sense of progression that typically comes out of the box when you play with other people. It's easy to feel like you are just reading a book rather than actually playing if there is no one else around.
With that need in mind, I settled on a database in Obsidian. I considered a paper diary or something similar, but knowing myself, I would forget it existed within a week. Broadly speaking, I added an "Inbox" to my Obsidian notebook where I can dump stuff I find online to read later. Then I set up various folders to classify games and articles, along with Journals (where I write down what happens in my game sessions) and Summaries (where I record after-game thoughts). It might not be perfect, but it works for my brain. And I have it on my laptop, and phone. Basically 100% of the time!
The beauty of this system is that by using tags and labels, I can also build small dashboards to remind me what I want to play next or what is currently in progress. Sometimes having too many choices is as bad as having none.
Currently, I am playing Grimscar RPG, but really looking to try Astroprisma next.
And that's it! I really just wanted to get some general thoughts down on the topic. I might go deeper into my tracking system later, or clean up my thoughts on the games I've completed and jot down how they made me feel.
Thank you so much for reading! ^_^
